ROMANCEAHOLIC · CONFESS

Tell me what you’ve done.

I Fight for My Favorite Characters

I have a confession.

There are fictional characters I am perfectly capable of discussing like a reasonable adult.

We can disagree.

You can dislike them.

You can point out their flaws.

I can listen thoughtfully and respect your opinion.

And then there are my characters.

Those are different.

Say something about one of them and suddenly I’m sitting up straighter.

What did you say?

Because I know what he did.

I was there.

I saw the bad decisions.

I witnessed the red flags.

I read the scene we’re all pretending didn’t happen.

I have reviewed the evidence.

And somehow…

I’m still prepared to fight for this man.

Not because I think he’s perfect.

Please.

Half the reason I love him is because that man has made choices that would require an emergency group chat in real life.

But I know his heart.

I know what it cost him to love.

I know the moments when nobody was looking.

I know who he became.

And apparently that’s enough for me to show up to an imaginary argument with exhibits.

The Part I Don’t Usually Admit

Sometimes I don’t even realize how much a character means to me until somebody completely misunderstands them.

And suddenly I’m not defending what they did.

I’m defending why their story mattered to me.

Because that’s the strange thing about loving fictional people.

We see pieces of them nobody around us actually experienced.

Their fears.

Their mistakes.

Their quiet moments.

The things they survived.

The choices that finally changed them.

So yes, I know they’re fictional.

I also know I’m currently defending one like they called me personally and asked for representation.

Both things can be true.

You are permitted to defend your fictional people.

You may prepare your imaginary evidence.

You may whisper “You don’t understand him” at your screen.

You may even forgive something you would absolutely tell your best friend to run from in real life.

This is Confess.

We’re interested in the thoughts you usually keep in the diary.

Now You Confess

You don’t have to give us a name.

You don’t have to give us a book.

Just tell us the truth:

Do you have a fictional character you will fight for no matter what anybody says?

And what makes you defend them so fiercely?

Come on.

The diary’s open. 💋
