“My emotional support system is currently fictional.”
Some people have perfectly reasonable coping mechanisms.
I have books.
Bad day?
Book.
Overthinking?
Book.
Need to disappear from reality for several hours because everyone has collectively become a little too people-y?
Oh, look. A book.
And romance books provide a particularly impressive range of services.
Need comfort? Found family.
Need hope? Second chance romance.
Need distraction? Enemies to lovers.
Need to feel something besides whatever nonsense today handed you?
Hello, morally gray man with unresolved emotional trauma and suspiciously selective devotion.
Is this therapy?
No.
But has staring at a fictional man whispering her name like it physically hurts him improved my mood on more than one occasion?
I will not be taking questions at this time.
That’s the lovely thing about stories.
Sometimes they make us laugh when the day has been heavy.
Sometimes they give us somewhere softer to land.
And sometimes they simply sit beside us for a while and remind us that tomorrow gets another chapter.
So yes, my emotional support system is currently fictional.
The benefits package is excellent. ♡
