Good decisions were never part of the reading plan.
For when sweet simply won’t do.
Give me the obsession. The jealousy. The morally questionable decisions. The dangerous loyalty.
Give me the man everyone else is looking at like absolutely not while I’m quietly turning another page because I need to examine the evidence.
I see the warning label.
I’m currently more interested in the devotion.

He doesn’t just love her. She’s become the plan.
I want the hero who notices everything.
Her favorite drink.
Her moods.
The way her voice changes when she’s upset.
The things she needs before she ever has to ask.
He remembers.
He anticipates.
He rearranges.
He protects.
He chooses.
There was a life before her.
He’s simply no longer particularly interested in it.
Because the obsession that gets me isn’t simply I can’t stop thinking about you.
It’s:
I see you. I know you. You matter to me. Completely.
Give me devotion with a slightly concerning level of commitment.
No recovery expected. 🖤
🌶️ Give Me a Man With Questionable Methods
Morally questionable. Romantically committed.
Does he always make the right decision?
Absolutely not.
Does he always make the legal decision?
Let’s not derail the conversation.
Do I occasionally need to close the book, stare at the wall, and reconsider why I’m rooting for him?
Also yes.
Because this man may have a flexible relationship with morality, but when he loves?
He loves with everything he has.
He’s loyal.
He’s relentless.
He’s willing to make choices the hero in another story wouldn’t even consider.
Should we approve of all his methods?
Probably not.
But that’s why we’re here.
The world can question his methods.
I’m currently busy examining the devotion.

Is it mature? Maybe not. Am I turning the page? Absolutely.
One innocent conversation.
One other man standing approximately six inches closer to her than our hero has personally deemed acceptable.
And suddenly
the jaw tightens.
The eyes follow.
The answers get shorter.
Our previously calm, completely unaffected man has apparently developed several new emotions at once.
Interesting.
Especially considering he was very clear that he doesn’t care.

Nobody said you cared.
Would you like to explain why you’ve been watching them for the last ten minutes?
Because sometimes jealousy isn’t what makes the moment delicious.
It’s watching the denial finally start to crack.
Oh. You do care.
We knew.
We were simply waiting for you to catch up.

Protective is good. Slightly terrifying is apparently better.
She can handle herself.
He knows that.
That’s important.
Because I don’t want a man who protects her because he thinks she’s helpless.
I want the one who knows exactly how capable she is and still steps beside her when things get ugly.
Not in front of her life.
Not in control of her choices.
Beside her.
Give me the hero who sees danger coming and immediately decides it has made an exceptionally poor decision.
The who did this to you?
The quiet fury.
The frightening calm.
The moment everyone else in the room suddenly realizes:
Oh.
That’s his person.
She doesn’t need him to fight her battles.
But if somebody decides to become one?
Well.
