Hey, Romanceaholics! Let’s have a heart-to-heart about the book community we used to know and love. You know, the one filled with cozy book clubs, genuine reviews, and a lot of mutual respect between authors and readers.
It feels like a lost chapter, doesn’t it? So let’s get real about the vibes we’ve been missing and why it’s time for a community comeback.
Remember When Reviews Were Actually Fun to Read?
Once upon a time, reviews were kind and thoughtful. They didn’t feel like gladiator matches! Readers would say, “This book wasn’t for me, but here’s what I enjoyed,” or “I adored every page, here’s why!”
Sure, not everyone loved every book, but readers and authors had this unspoken agreement to keep it respectful. Can we PLEASE get back to that? The drama only makes us forget what we came here for finding our next bookish love!
Readers & Authors Were Cheerleaders, Not Critics
Back in the day, authors weren’t “untouchable,” and readers weren’t “harsh critics.” We were all just fans!
Readers would line up at book signings (pre-Instagram selfie era!) with nothing but love for the storytellers bringing our favorite fantasies to life. And authors? They’d recommend books from other writers, hype up new releases, and get the community together.
Less drama, more let’s share the love.
Healthy Discussions vs. Toxic Wars
There was a time when book discussions were precisely that discussion!
Maybe you loved enemies-to-lovers, or maybe your best friend swore by second chances. We’d talk, we’d laugh, and no one got roasted.
Now, it feels like liking or disliking certain tropes is treated like a crime. But what happened to “let people love what they love”?
Can we return to letting different tastes add spice to the conversation instead of salt?
Authors as Fans: The Most Relatable Energy!
Remember when your favorite authors were just like us? They’d fangirl about other books and tweet about their all-time favorite love stories, and it felt like a big, happy, book-loving family.
There was this unbreakable bond in knowing our favorite storytellers were readers too. It feels like everyone’s on the defensive these days, but let’s bring back that joy of knowing our favorite authors are in the trenches with us!
Let’s Make Romance a Safe Space Again
Romance books are our escape, our happy place. Whether you love dark romance, sweet and fluffy rom-coms, or angsty forbidden love, you belong.
There used to be no gatekeeping, and no one was telling you that certain tropes or subgenres “didn’t count” or “weren’t real romance.”
Let’s stop tearing down the tropes and preferences that make this genre so beautifully diverse. Romance is big enough for all of us!
So here’s my open letter to all of us, dear Romanceaholics: Can we bring back the love? Let’s trade in the hate for hype, the shade for shares, and start lifting each other again.
We’re all here because we believe in love stories. Let’s make the community as magical as the books that brought us here.
