When Authors Get Rude & Demanding: A Book Blogger’s Guide to Staying Unbothered & Fabulous

Alright, let’s discuss the darker side of book blogging. The side that isn’t just swoony tropes, steamy reads, and flatlays that look like they belong in a romance goddess’s mood board. Today, we’re diving into a topic that needs to be said louder for the people in the back:

Some authors? Are rude. And way too demanding.

Yes, I said it. Yes, I meant it. And no, I’m not naming names because I’m classy like that. But as your favorite sass-powered Romanceaholic, I’ve got to keep it real.

The Entitlement Is Real

Look, I love supporting authors. I write honest reviews, I promote books I adore, and I shout about underrated gems as if they personally saved my life. However, I am not your unpaid pr team.

Sliding into my DMs demanding a 5-star review? Nope. Sending me an unsolicited ARC and then chasing me for a post every 48 hours? Immediate block. My blog, my rules, my schedule. I don’t care if your mafia billionaire has abs of steel.

Respect is the bare minimum.

Let’s Talk About The Guilt Trips

“Can you just leave a quick review on Amazon? It helps rankings.”

Yes, I know. But if I haven’t even finished the book or didn’t like it. I’m not going to fake it for your algorithm.

This isn’t high school. I don’t succumb to peer pressure, and I certainly don’t lie to my readers.

And when I do post a critical review, still polite and respectful, I don’t want to receive passive-aggressive messages about how “it wasn’t meant for readers like me.”

I am the reader. I was your audience. And now I’m moving on with my fictional boyfriends who know how to communicate.

PSA to Authors: Kindness Goes a Long Way

To the lovely, generous authors who are gracious, respectful, and treat bloggers like humans, we see you, we love you, and we will ride for you forever. You make this community worth it.

I’m not here for author drama. I’m here to spotlight romance books, scream about tropes, and connect with readers who get it.

So, if an author can’t treat bloggers with respect?

That’s their plot twist, not mine.
