THE HEROINES

Meet the women who made us pay attention.

Different women. Different worlds. Each unforgettable for her own damn reason.

SHE DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THE STRONGEST WOMAN IN THE ROOM

Six women. Six worlds. Six completely different ways to be formidable.

There is a particular kind of woman romance loves to call strong.

She walks into the room with a weapon.

Everyone is afraid of her.

She can kill a man before breakfast, overthrow a kingdom by lunch, and still have enough energy left to make one morally questionable man completely lose his mind before dinner.

Listen.

We enjoy her too.

Very much.

But somewhere along the way, strong heroine became such convenient shorthand that we started forgetting something:

There is more than one way for a woman to be formidable.

Sometimes she’s the deadliest person in the room.

Sometimes she’s the smartest.

Sometimes she’s the woman nobody noticed until noticing her became unavoidable.

Sometimes she knows exactly how dangerous the room is and walks in anyway.

And sometimes?

She isn’t a fighter at all.

That’s why I wanted these six women together.

Not because their stories look alike.

Because they don’t.

TONIGHT’S TASTING BOX

Romanceaholic has never believed you should have to choose only one flavor of romance.

So neither will The Heroines.

We’re crossing genres, worlds, tropes and relationship styles deliberately. One woman might bring mafia vengeance. Another supernatural poison. Another dark-academia insanity. Another walks into a world of monsters carrying something considerably quieter: compassion.

Different women give us different ways of understanding the same thing.

And there’s another reason I love doing it this way.

You may recognize one woman immediately.

You may have never heard of the woman beside her.

Good.

Come for the heroine you know. Stay long enough to crave the one you don’t.

Today’s craving?

Women who make us rethink what being powerful actually means.

THE SECRET WHO REFUSED TO STAY ONE

Some women enter the story with everyone watching. Scarlett begins where almost nobody is supposed to see her.

Scarlett begins in the shadows.

She’s an unclaimed Omega attached to one of Chicago’s strongest mafia empires, treated as a secret and a final chess piece. Then her Alpha betrays her.

That could have been the beginning of a story about a broken woman waiting for powerful men to save her.

Scarlett apparently did not receive that script.

She wants revenge.

Not vague someday-I’ll-make-him-pay revenge.

Scarlett has put some thought into this.

“I needed revenge. Deserved vengeance.”

But violence isn’t the thing that makes Scarlett interesting.

Before everything collapses, she is already protecting other unclaimed Omegas. Betrayal doesn’t suddenly give her strength. It reveals just how much was already there.

And then we discover the woman can kill elite killers with a bra wire.

Ma’am.

No further questions.

Her new pack doesn’t make Scarlett powerful either. Their perspective matters because they recognize the woman everyone else underestimated. One of them realizes she’ll change their dynamic, their morals, even the incompleteness between them.

WHAT SCARLETT BRINGS TO THE TABLE

Survival that became reclamation.

They treated her like something disposable.

She never was.

CARMEN’S NOTE ♡

SCARLETT
Cinder Blaze

Scarlett is not just an Omega. She is a warrior.

She is fiercely protective, lethally capable, and loyal to the people she loves. But what stayed with me was the woman underneath all that strength a woman deeply wounded by betrayal who refuses to let that pain define what she becomes.

Her new pack Enzo, Maverick, Rhys, and Cain may be ruthless, dangerous, and possessive, but Scarlett never disappears beneath their power.

She stands beside them with a strength entirely her own.

They didn’t make Scarlett powerful. They simply recognized the woman who already was.

THE DEAD GIRL WITH A CITY TO BURN

Oh, this woman knows how to make an entrance.

“That little girl is me, and I’m going to burn this City to the motherfucking ground.”

Welcome, Jolie.

When she was eleven, three powerful Families murdered the Knights.

Everyone believed Jolie died beside them.

Seven years later?

Surprise, assholes.

Jolie Knight walks straight back into the world that erased her.

Not as the little girl they remember.

Not looking for permission.

And certainly not afraid of the men controlling Saint Gabriel City.

What I love here isn’t merely that Jolie survived.

It’s what she decided survival was for.

She doesn’t return grateful to have escaped.

She returns with an agenda.

And her former best friends have to reconcile the little girl they loved with the woman standing before them now: ruthless, unpredictable, deadly, and still somehow the missing piece of something they lost years ago.

WHAT JOLIE BRINGS TO THE TABLE

Reclamation with a body count pending.

You don’t get to destroy a woman and then decide what she’s allowed to become afterward.

CARMEN’S NOTE ♡

A KNIGHT’S REVENGE
Elizabeth Dear

We’re talking about a girl who watched her family get wiped out by her so-called “friends” and their power-hungry families only to rise from the ashes like the baddest phoenix you’ve ever seen.

Jolie Knight is no damsel in distress.

She’s a fire-breathing dragon with revenge on her mind and enough fury to burn Saint Gabriel City to the ground.

And I loved every damn minute of it.

Elizabeth Dear creates a world where betrayal feels like foreplay and revenge might as well be an aphrodisiac. Across three books, the tension builds, the twists keep coming, and the chemistry is exactly the kind that makes putting the story down nearly impossible.

But underneath all that delicious chaos is Jolie.

A woman who lost everything, survived what was supposed to destroy her, and came back ready to make damn sure the people responsible remembered her name.

A Knight’s Revenge is dark, addictive, emotional, and completely unapologetic about what it is. It stole my heart, shredded it, and somehow managed to piece the damn thing back together again.

They thought they buried the girl. What came back was Jolie Knight.

THE WOMAN WHO LOOKED AT THE MONSTER AND SMILED

Eli Hunter expects fear.

This is his first mistake.

Rina enters Blackwater University knowing exactly who he is.

Hitman.

Assassin.

Contract killer.

The most dangerous student on campus.

And because her brother has crossed him, Rina makes the sort of decision that would cause a reasonable person to reconsider several life choices:

She makes herself Eli’s target instead.

Eli waits for her to cower.

She laughs.

He expects to destabilize her.

She throws him off his game.

That’s what makes Rina so deliciously wrong for any conventional definition of the endangered heroine.

She understands the danger.

That’s not the problem.

She likes it there.

She isn’t unknowingly dragged into somebody else’s darkness.

She’s looking around.

Stretching her legs.

Making herself comfortable.

Hell was supposed to frighten her.

Instead, apparently, somebody gave the woman a playground.

WHAT RINA BRINGS TO THE TABLE

Fearlessness with questionable self-preservation.

The thing you intended to frighten her with might be exactly what makes her feel alive.

ALLURING DARKNESS
Raven Wood

Raina is a force to be reckoned with. What stayed with me most was the courage it took for her to face Eli Hunter to protect her brother. She isn’t waiting for someone to rescue her—her fierceness, loyalty, and protective nature make her a warrior in her own right.

And then there’s Eli.

Dangerous. Mysterious. Completely captivating.

Every encounter between them feels like a dance on the razor’s edge, but what makes their story so compelling is that the cat-and-mouse game becomes about more than survival. As the layers fall away, both Raina and Eli begin to reveal something far more interesting beneath the danger.

Suspense, passion, intrigue and two people who are not quite what they first appear to be.

The darkness may pull you in. Raina is the reason you stay.

THE WOMAN WHO TALKS POISON LIKE POETRY

Please don’t mistake pretty for harmless.

Rune wanted into Apex Elite Academy badly enough to beg, bribe and emotionally blackmail her overprotective father.

She gets in.

And then proceeds to demonstrate why perhaps Dad had concerns.

Venom drips over her skin.

She fights.

She thinks.

She studies.

She wants to know why.

And that’s the part of Rune I don’t want us to lose beneath the supernatural badassery.

Her intelligence isn’t decoration.

Her mind is part of the danger.

One of the men describes her perfectly:

“She’s brilliant. Her mind, her curiosity, all of it. She talks venom and poisons the way most talk poetry.”

And then someone else gives us this glorious contribution:

“She stabbed me the first day we met, and I fell in love then.”

Sir.

Fair enough.

WHAT RUNE BRINGS TO THE TABLE

A dangerous mind that genuinely loves what it knows.

Never underestimate the woman who’s fascinated by the very thing everyone else finds frightening.

APEX ELITE ACADEMY: YEAR 4
Lyra Winters

What stayed with me most was watching Rune’s journey come full circle.

The action is intense and the stakes are higher than ever, but Lyra Winters never lets the larger supernatural conflict overshadow the relationships at the heart of the story. Rune and her mates have grown into something that feels earned their loyalty, teamwork, and devotion to one another shine when everything around them is being tested.

But Rune’s growth was the part I loved most.

Watching her evolve from a student finding her place into a powerful woman capable of leading, fighting, loving, and standing beside the people who have become hers made this finale incredibly satisfying.

Fast-paced, emotional, and full of the relationship dynamics that made this series so addictive, Apex Elite Academy: Year 4 gave Rune the ending her journey deserved.

She entered the Academy as a student. She leaves it knowing exactly who she is.

THE QUEEN WHO DOESN’T WANT YOUR DAMN THRONE

Lark is a hacker.

A very good hacker.

Unfortunately, she’s good enough to attract the attention of three very dangerous men.

More unfortunately?

They’re good enough to find her.

She’s kidnapped by a hacker, a psychotic assassin and a mafia don, only to discover they’re considerably more interested in her than the money she took.

And Lark has a problem with their plans.

She doesn’t want to be a mafia queen.

Good.

Because what makes her interesting isn’t whether someone eventually puts a crown on her head.

It’s whether she remains Lark underneath it.

Her men recognize her intelligence and ability as something that belongs beside their power, not underneath it.

And then comes the line that earns its place in this conversation:

“Don’t ever feel like you have to bow to us. We want a partner, not a submissive toy.”

There it is.

Love doesn’t require Lark to become smaller so powerful men can remain large.

WHAT LARK BRINGS TO THE TABLE

Power without submission.

Standing beside someone has never meant standing beneath them.

CARMEN’S NOTE ♡

I read it. I felt it. Here’s what stayed.

LARK
Lexi C. Foss

Dark, addictive, and unapologetically possessive, Lark pulled me straight into the morally gray side of romance and refused to let go.

Johan, Noah, and Lazarus are dangerous, domineering, and deliciously complicated. Each brings something different to the relationship cunning intelligence, unsettling unpredictability, and commanding authority. They take. They claim. They reshape the world around them until it bends to what they want.

But Lark is what kept me invested.

Her defiance, wit, and vulnerability make her far more than a woman caught between three dangerous men. Even when control is being taken from her, there is something in Lark that refuses to disappear. Watching her navigate fear, fascination, resistance, and forbidden attraction gives the darkness its emotional center.

And this romance is dark. Possessiveness, mafia power, psychological intensity, and morally questionable men are woven into its DNA. It won’t be for every reader.

But if you like your romance dangerous, your heroes questionable, and your heroine unwilling to quietly surrender herself?

Lark delivers.

They may control the world around her. That doesn’t mean they control who she is.

♡ Carmen

THE WOMAN WHO DIDN’T NEED A WEAPON

And then the entire conversation changes.

Lexi may be the most important woman at our table.

Not because she’s the deadliest.

She isn’t.

Not because everyone fears her.

They don’t.

In fact:

“She wasn’t a fighter, but she couldn’t stand by and do nothing while others suffered.”

There.

That’s why she’s here.

Because if Scarlett, Jolie, Rina, Rune and Lark were the only women we brought into this room, we could leave having accidentally invented another narrow definition of female strength.

Kill people.

Be dangerous.

Never be afraid.

Basically:

Violence, but make it feminine.

No.

Lexi won’t let us get away with that.

She enters a world of dark fae, treachery and death without becoming the most lethal creature in it.

Her defining strength is much quieter.

Someone is suffering.

She could stay safe.

She doesn’t.

That’s courage too.

Perhaps one of its purest forms.

WHAT LEXI BRINGS TO THE TABLE

Compassion strong enough to become action.

You don’t have to destroy everyone in the room to be the bravest person standing in it.

THE SHADOW REALMS
Brenda K. Davies

Lexi and Cole are such a beautiful match. Their connection feels immediate, but what I loved was how Lexi pushes Cole to open up and show what he feels. Beneath all that mighty Alpha-warrior strength is a man with a heart of gold and Lexi sees it.

But Lexi is stronger than she knows.

Her compassion never makes her weak. She loves fiercely, protects fiercely, and when something needs to be done, she does it.

Together, she and Cole feel like exactly what I want from a romance:

A perfect match of hearts.

Her compassion is her strength.

And loving fiercely might be her greatest power of all.

♡ Carmen

NOW LOOK AT THE TABLE.

This is why we crossed worlds.

Scarlett gave us survival and reclamation.

Jolie brought revenge.

Rina brought fearlessness.

Rune brought intelligence and curiosity.

Lark brought autonomy.

Lexi brought compassion.

And none of them had to resemble the woman sitting beside her.

That’s the treat.

One conversation gave us mafia, academy, supernatural, fantasy, dark romance, different relationship structures, different personalities and entirely different forms of female power.

You may have arrived because Scarlett sounded deliciously unhinged.

You may leave wanting to meet Lexi.

You might recognize Jolie and suddenly find yourself wondering about the woman who talks about poison like poetry.

That’s exactly what we want.

Romance is enormous.

Our cravings should be allowed to wander.

AND THE MEN?

Oh, they noticed.

But here’s where I want to be careful.

Their attention is not proof of these women’s worth.

The men simply give us another viewpoint.

They see Scarlett changing the pack.

They see Jolie as ruthless and still their missing piece.

Rina knocks Eli completely off balance.

Rune’s intelligence fascinates the people around her.

Lark is recognized as a partner.

Lexi’s compassion distinguishes her.

Their partners aren’t handing these women power.

They’re witnesses to it.

And sometimes that is one of the most satisfying parts of romance:

Not watching a powerful man create an extraordinary woman.

Watching him realize the extraordinary woman was already standing there.

THE WOMEN HAVE SPOKEN.

Maybe we’ve been asking the wrong question.

Not:

Is she strong?

But:

Where does her strength live?

Scarlett — survival.

Jolie — reclamation.

Rina — fearlessness.

Rune — intellect.

Lark — autonomy.

Lexi — compassion.

Six women.

Six worlds.

Six answers.

And suddenly strong female character feels far too small for everything a woman can be.

THE UNFORGETTABLE TRUTH

She doesn’t have to be the strongest woman in the room.

She can be soft and formidable.

Frightened and brave.

Loved and independent.

Protected and powerful.

Dangerous and compassionate.

Brilliant and reckless.

She can need people.

She can make mistakes.

She can want love.

She can want revenge.

She can want the crown.

She can want absolutely nothing to do with the damn thing.

Her power doesn’t begin when someone else recognizes it.

And it doesn’t disappear because another woman’s power looks completely different.

There was never supposed to be one way to be a badass woman.

There were supposed to be millions.
