THE ROMANCE OF BEING HIS ONLY EXCEPTION

CRAVING SOMETHING?

HE HATES EVERYBODY EXCEPT HER

Grumpy to the world. Soft only for her. We know a few stories.

Dear Romanceaholics,

We need to talk about a very specific kind of man.

The one who hates everybody.

He doesn’t do small talk. He doesn’t charm the room. He has no interest in making friends, winning people over, or pretending he’s delighted to see anyone.

He has approximately three facial expressions, two of them are annoyed, and “approachable” has never once appeared on his list of personal goals.

And then

there’s her.

Suddenly, the man with no patience for anyone has endless patience for her.

He remembers how she takes her coffee.

He notices when she gets quiet.

He knows she’s cold before she says anything and silently hands over his jacket.

He stands a little closer when someone makes her uncomfortable.

He complains the entire time he’s helping her while already doing exactly what she needs.

He’ll glare at the entire world and then look at her like she’s the only soft thing he’s ever allowed himself to want.

And that is the craving.

Because He Hates Everybody Except Her was never really about the hating.

It’s about the exception.

It’s about watching someone guarded, difficult, emotionally unavailable or occasionally one inconvenience away from becoming everyone else’s problem have one spectacular weakness.

Her.

Everyone else gets the walls.

She gets the door left unlocked.

Everyone else gets go away.

She gets stay.

Everyone else gets the clipped answers, the permanent scowl, the emotional fortress.

She gets the quiet softness nobody knew existed.

And oh, Romanceaholics, give us the moment when she doesn’t know she’s the exception yet.

Because we do.

We’ve seen the way his eyes find her first.

We noticed he remembered the tiny thing she mentioned six chapters ago.

We absolutely clocked the fact that this man supposedly “doesn’t care” while rearranging his entire existence because she had a bad day.

Sir.

Respectfully.

You are catastrophically in love.

And we are having a wonderful time watching you figure it out.

That’s why we crave this particular kind of romance.

Not because we want cruelty dressed up as affection.

We want contrast.

We want the delicious intimacy of knowing that the tenderness means more because he doesn’t give it easily.

The harder the exterior, the more devastating that softness becomes.

Give us the scowl.

Give us the irritated sigh.

Give us the “I don’t care” followed immediately by an extremely suspicious amount of caring.

Give us the man who would happily tell the rest of humanity to leave him alone

then turn to her and quietly ask,

“Did you eat?”

Because sometimes the grandest declaration isn’t shouted across a ballroom.

Sometimes it’s a man who has spent an entire book insisting he needs absolutely no one

making room beside him for exactly one person.

And somehow?

That gets us every damn time.

With entirely predictable weakness for fictional grumps,

BETTER STORIES. BIGGER FEELINGS.

LOVE STORIES. TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

We don’t just recommend the book. We understand the craving.
