I would like to formally defend the romance reader accused of owning too many unread books.
First of all, too many according to whom?
Because buying a book and reading a book are clearly two completely different activities.
Reading requires time, quiet, emotional availability, snacks, and preferably several uninterrupted hours in which nobody expects anything from us.
Buying books?
That requires approximately seven minutes and questionable restraint.
Besides, we’re not just buying books.
We’re buying possibilities.
A rainy-day book. A vacation book. A devastating-book-for-when-we-feel-too-emotionally-stable book. A cozy Sunday book. A morally-gray-man emergency book.
Will we read all of them immediately?
Absolutely not.
Will we continue buying more while standing beside a TBR that could qualify as structural architecture?

So enjoy your coffee. Read what you want. And please stop feeling guilty about the unread books waiting for you.
They aren’t judging you.
