Good morning, romance reader ♡
“Some characters leave the page and quietly become part of you.”
There are fictional characters I remember.
And then there are the ones I miss.
Which feels slightly ridiculous when you think about it.
They were never actually here.
We never sat across from them at dinner. Never heard their laugh. Never received one of their terrible pieces of advice.
And yet somehow, after spending hundreds of pages with them, closing the book can feel a little like saying goodbye to someone you know.
You know their fears.
Their secrets.
The things they pretend don’t hurt.
You watched them fall apart, fall in love, make terrible decisions, find their people, and slowly become someone braver than they were on page one.
And somewhere along the way, they stopped feeling like words on paper.
They became familiar.
Maybe even comforting.
Then the story ends, and you catch yourself wondering how they’re doing.
As though somewhere, just beyond the final page, they’re still living their lives without you.
That’s the strange, beautiful thing about reading.
We know they aren’t real.
But what they made us feel absolutely was.
And maybe that’s why certain characters never completely leave us.
We carry little pieces of them forward their courage, their softness, their ridiculous humor, the way they loved.
So yes, I occasionally miss people who have never existed.
Romanceaholic considers this a perfectly reasonable side effect of loving books. ♡
Which fictional character do you still miss like an old friend?
