Good morning, romance reader ♡
Good morning, romance reader ♡
“My favorite kind of weekend has no reservations and several fictional commitments.”
There was a time when I thought a successful weekend meant having plans.
Places to go.
People to see.
Something exciting penciled into every available hour.
And don’t get me wrong.
I still love a lovely afternoon out.
A little bookstore wandering.
A coffee shop with comfortable chairs.
Maybe a pastry that costs entirely too much but looks like it belongs in a Parisian romance.
I’m only human, darling.
But these days?
My favorite weekends are the ones where absolutely nobody needs me to be anywhere.
No alarms.
No rushing.
No complicated arrangements.
Just a whole beautiful stretch of time waiting to be filled with whatever makes me happy.
And preferably?
Several hundred pages of fictional nonsense.
Because I already have plans.
Very important plans, actually.
There’s a small town I need to visit where the local grump has apparently fallen for the sunshine-filled newcomer.
There’s a fantasy kingdom experiencing some deeply concerning political tension.
A morally gray man who has made approximately twelve questionable decisions and is about to make a thirteenth.
And somewhere in another book, two stubborn people are still pretending they don’t have feelings for each other.
Honestly, my schedule is packed.
The wonderful thing about a reading weekend is that you can go absolutely everywhere without needing to leave your favorite chair.
You can fall in love in Paris before lunch.
Solve a mystery in a seaside village by midafternoon.
Attend a royal ball in an enchanted kingdom before dinner.
And spend the evening emotionally recovering from a fictional man who finally learned how to communicate.
All while wearing the same comfortable clothes.
That, romance reader, is luxury.
And I think there’s something lovely about giving ourselves permission to enjoy a slower weekend.
Not every free moment needs to become an opportunity to accomplish something.
Sometimes we don’t need another appointment.
Another obligation.
Another thing to cross off a list.
Sometimes we just need a little space to ourselves.
A story that makes us smile.
A character who makes us laugh.
A romance that reminds us why we love getting lost in books in the first place.
And maybe a spontaneous bookstore visit.
Because obviously, we might need supplies.
Romanceaholic would like to clarify that fictional commitments are still commitments.
If I have a date with a brooding duke, a cursed prince, or a suspiciously charming bookstore owner, I cannot simply cancel.
That would be terribly rude. ♡
So here’s your little weekend permission slip:
Make the coffee.
Wear the comfortable sweater.
Wander into the bookstore.
Buy the book if it makes your heart happy.
And don’t feel obligated to fill every quiet hour with something productive.
Sometimes the best weekend plans are the ones that leave room for another chapter.
Now tell me, romance reader…
What’s your ideal bookish weekend: a bookstore adventure, a cozy reading day at home, or a little bit of both?
