Confessions of a Romanceaholic: Enemies-to-Lovers… With a Body Count
Sure, I love a little verbal sparring and delicious tension, but let’s be real if there isn’t blood, betrayal, and at least one kiss that feels like it could end in murder or marriage, sometimes both!
Is it even dark romance?
Enemies-to-lovers is always hot, but when you crank it up with power plays, dangerous obsession, and life-or-death stakes? Baby, that’s my jam.
I want the heroine glaring down the barrel of a gun while the hero smirks and says, “Still think you hate me?” I want betrayal so gut-wrenching it leaves me gasping and then, like clockwork, a reunion so feral and messy that I’m screaming into my pillow.
This isn’t just banter and tension. It’s knife-to-throat foreplay, whispered threats that sound suspiciously like confessions, and enemies who’d rather die than admit they’re obsessed.
And let’s not forget: the higher the body count, the deeper the passion. We’re talking about dark romance royalty here, ruthless crime bosses, assassins, and morally grey antiheroes who’d burn kingdoms to the ground for their girl.
So yes, if I pick up an enemies-to-lovers dark romance, I expect chaos. I expect betrayal. I expect heart-stopping danger followed by heart-melting devotion. And if there isn’t at least one scene where I’m wondering if they’re about to kill each other or kiss? Sorry, babe, it’s just not unhinged enough for me.
