Welcome back, Romanceaholics!
Let’s talk Kiss of Deceit by Kay Riley, a romantic suspense that lures you in with snow-dusted cabins and then bam!
Hits you with masked killers, steamy tension, and enough small-town drama to fuel a Bravo reality show.
Snow, Suspense & Slow-Burn Smooches
Let me set the scene: Winterlake is the kind of place you’d escape to for peace and quiet… until someone starts stalking you through the woods.
Dani, who’s carrying more baggage than the airport carousel at Christmas, wants a fresh start. But nope, cue the masked killer, sketchy townspeople, and a broody bar owner named Kole who smells like cinnamon whiskey and bad decisions. Yes please.
The setting is absolutely perfect. Riley nails the creepy, snow-blanketed atmosphere with haunting precision. You can feel the isolation pressing in with every page.
And Kole? Let’s say if broody mountain men with secrets and smirks are your weakness, prepare to swoon so hard your Kindle may need a seatbelt.

Strengths, Weaknesses & Sizzling Tension
Strengths? The suspense is tight, the pacing mostly delivers, and the romance is a delicious slow burn with some solid spice payoff. Bonus points for not relying on tired tropes.
Dani has grit, and the love story doesn’t overshadow the thriller elements.
Weaknesses? A few red herrings felt more like pink flamingos, and side characters could’ve used more dimension.

Most Memorable Moment?
Hands down: the moment Kole reveals his secret, and no, I’m not spoiling it here, but trust me, it’ll have you clutching your heart and maybe your pepper spray.
Final Verdict
Would I recommend Kiss of Deceit? Absolutely. If you like your romance with a pulse-pounding thriller edge, this is the winter read for you.
It’s twisty, sexy, and keeps you guessing until the very end. Maybe keep the lights on when you read it… and lock your cabin door.
