Let’s talk about obsession, touchdowns, and one very determined ex in a Santa suit. C.R. Jane didn’t come to play with this lineup she came to steal your heart, hand it to a morally grey antihero, and let him guard it like it’s fourth down in the final seconds of the championship game.
This series delivers heat, heartbreak, and just the right amount of holiday magic to wreck your TBR in the best way possible. So grab your wine, fluff your throw blanket, and get ready to spiral with me.
Here’s my Romanceaholic breakdown of The Wrong Quarterback, The Wrong Play, and Merry Me, aka the books that had no business being this addictive.

The Wrong Quarterback – Parker Davis Doesn’t Play Fair… And We Love Him for It
Parker Davis is not your next book boyfriend, he’s your next book obsession. From the moment he storms into Casey’s life, it’s clear this isn’t just about love it’s possession with a twist of emotional warfare.
If you like your heroes intense, relentless, and a little unhinged, Parker is ready to ruin you.
Strengths:
- Emotional tension you can cut with a cleat
- A heroine with depth and trauma you feel
- Deliciously dark football drama
Weaknesses:
- Could’ve used slightly more groveling, but we forgive Parker because… If alpha energy makes you weak in the knees, Parker’s about to wreck your entire posture.
C.R. Jane delivers a darker twist on the typical college football romance, and baby, it’s messy, obsessive, and totally binge-worthy.

The Wrong Play – Jace Thatcher Is Giving “Golden Boy Gone Feral” Energy
Jace Thatcher is every warning label slapped on a romance hero, wrapped in charm and doused in obsession. This man sees what he wants, and what he wants is Riley. She may be scarred, guarded, and not here for games, but that makes Jace double down.
Strengths:
- Tension so thick, you’ll need a timeout
- Gritty backstories and emotional baggage done right
- High-stakes love that’s both brutal and beautiful
Weaknesses:
- While the pacing is electric, some internal monologues drag. The heroine repeats the same fears without much evolution early on.
If you like your romance dark, dirty, and just the right amount of deranged, yes. The Wrong Play is not sweet or soft. It’s intense, addictive, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. But for the rest of us, chaos-loving Romanceaholics? This play was precisely the kind of wrong we live for.

Merry Me – Second-Chance Romance Wrapped in Tinsel and Longing
Finally, a breath of sweet air after all that toxic testosterone. Merry Me is your holiday hug wrapped in heartbreak, nostalgia, and sexual tension. Natalie and Easton are the second-chance couple you root for with your whole chest.
He’s not a quarterback. He’s not dangerous. He’s not trying to ruin her life, he’s just trying to love her, damn it.
Strengths:
- Banter that slaps
- A heartfelt second-chance arc with Christmas magic
- Slow burn that builds beautifully
Weaknesses:
- Needed more time with Easton’s POV because we deserve to live in his head, thank you
Merry Me is a feel-good, flirty, and festive read that brings all the second-chance romance magic you want in a holiday rom-com. It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, and it reminds us that sometimes, love needs a little snowstorm and a meddling grandma to find its way back.
If you’re a sucker for second-chance romance with a holiday twist, Merry Me is merry, messy, and full of emotional magic. It’s a festive reminder that the heart doesn’t follow logic, it follows love. And sometimes, love wears a Santa suit.
