ROMANCEAHOLIC COURT: THE READER JURY
The fictional man has been charged. You are the jury.
Court is now in session.
The defendant is dangerous.
Possessive.
Morally questionable.
Possibly wanted in several fictional jurisdictions.
And, unfortunately for the prosecution, extremely attractive.
Carmen has reviewed the evidence.
The defense has made several passionate arguments involving loyalty, trauma, and the phrase “but you don’t understand—he’s soft with her.”
Now there’s only one thing left to do.
Darling, we need a verdict.
⚖️ CASE #001
THE MORALLY GRAY BOYFRIEND
The People vs. One Extremely Questionable Fictional Man
The defendant stands accused of behavior that would normally cause a reasonable person to reconsider the relationship.
Romance readers, however, have never claimed to be reasonable in the presence of a well-written antihero.
🚨 THE CHARGES
The prosecution submits the following evidence:
🚨 Excessive possessiveness
🚨 Threatening behavior
🚨 A deeply questionable relationship with the law
🚨 Solving problems with violence
🚨 Extreme jealousy
🚨 Saying things like “You’re mine.”
🚨 Knowing entirely too much about where she is at all times
🚨 Having an unreasonable number of enemies
And perhaps most concerning:
🚨 Being suspiciously attractive while doing all of the above.
The prosecution rests.
Carmen would like it noted that several members of the jury appear to be smiling.
Please compose yourselves.
🖤 THE DEFENSE
Your Honor.
Members of the jury.
Before we send this fictional man directly to Book Boyfriend Jail, the defense would like to present several mitigating circumstances.
🖤 He is fiercely loyal.
🖤 He protects the person he loves.
🖤 He is soft for exactly one person.
🖤 He would never betray them.
🖤 He is excellent in an emergency.
🖤 He has trauma.
🖤 He may be misunderstood.
🖤 He would probably burn the world down for her.
And finally…
🖤 Look. You had to be there.
A compelling legal argument?
No.
An argument romance readers have absolutely used before?
Unfortunately, yes.
THE CROSS-EXAMINATION
Carmen has one question for the defense.
Did he do all those things?
Yes.
And you still want him released?
…
Also yes.
Interesting.
The court has concerns.

⚖️ THE VERDICT
The evidence has been presented.
The red flags have been documented.
The morally gray behavior has been entered into the official Romanceaholic record.
Now you are the jury.
Choose your verdict:
A — RELEASE HIM.
That’s my book boyfriend.
The court acknowledges your decision and would like absolutely nothing to do with whatever happens next.
B — PROBATION.
I’m concerned, but I’m still reading.
You recognize the red flags.
You simply require several more chapters before reaching any conclusions.
Very responsible.
Sort of.
C — GUILTY.
Fantastic character. Absolutely not coming home with me.
You may enjoy fictional chaos while maintaining excellent fictional boundaries.
Carmen respects the distinction.
D — YOUR HONOR…
In my client’s defense, he loves her.
Oh.
You’re one of those readers.
The prosecution has seventeen exhibits.
There are witnesses.
There may be surveillance footage.
And somehow you’re standing in front of this courtroom explaining that he had his reasons.
Carmen has noted your objection.
It has been overruled.
You appear to be continuing anyway.
THE READER JURY HAS THE FLOOR
Comment your verdict:
A — RELEASE HIM
B — PROBATION
C — GUILTY
D — YOUR HONOR…
And if you choose D, darling?
You’d better come prepared to defend your client.
Because this is Romanceaholic Court, and “but he’s hot” is not admissible evidence.
Probably.

Court adjourned. 🖤
Until the next fictional man commits something questionable.
