Red Flag or Book Boyfriend?

Morally Gray Edition

Good decisions are not required.

We’ve discussed morally gray men.

We’ve acknowledged the questionable decisions.

We’ve seen the red flags.

And now, darling, we’re going to find out whether you actually consider them red flags… or whether you’ve been quietly filing them under book boyfriend qualifications.

Carmen presents the evidence.

For each statement, you have exactly two choices:

🚩 RED FLAG
Absolutely not. Someone come get this man.

🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND
I see the concern. I will be continuing anyway.

No explanations yet.

No consulting your morally questionable friends.

And no saying “it depends”.

Carmen knows it depends.

That’s what makes this fun.

1. He memorized her coffee order.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Starting gently.

Carmen would like everyone to remember this feeling of safety.

2. He knows where she is without her telling him.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Interesting.

Some of you hesitated.

We have begun documenting things.

3. He says, “Who did this to you?” and actually expects a name.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Not “Are you okay?”

Not “Should we call someone?”

A name.

Sir has apparently skipped directly to the investigation.

4. Everyone is afraid of him except her.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Terrifying reputation.

Questionable history.

Possibly banned from several establishments.

But with her?

Soft.

Unfortunately, Carmen knows exactly what this trope does to people.

5. He breaks into her house… to make sure she’s safe.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Darling.

There was a door.

There was presumably a phone.

There were options.

And yet here we are.

6. He has exactly one soft spot.

Unfortunately, it’s her.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Cold to the world.

Dangerous to his enemies.

Would probably glare at a puppy.

Then she walks into the room and suddenly this man has feelings.

Carmen understands the appeal.

Carmen is also concerned.

Both things can be true.

7. He says he isn’t jealous while staring at another man like he’s planning a funeral.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

“I’m not jealous.”

Of course not, darling.

Your face just happens to be committing a felony.

8. He would lie to everyone except her.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Morally questionable?

Absolutely.

Romantically significant?

…also absolutely.

This game is becoming inconvenient.

9. He has enemies.

An unreasonable number of enemies.

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

At some point we do have to ask why half the fictional city wants this man dead.

We don’t necessarily have to ask before finishing the book, but eventually.

10. He whispers:

“You’re mine.”

🚩 RED FLAG
or
🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Oh.

Look at everyone suddenly forgetting how voting works.

Take your time.

Carmen will wait.

FINAL ROUND

We’re removing the training wheels.

No context.

No explanation.

No “but what happened before this?”

Your fictional man looks at the person he loves and makes one thing perfectly clear:

He would burn the world down for her.

What’s your verdict?

🚩 RED FLAG

Someone should probably stop him.

🖤 BOOK BOYFRIEND

Well… is she cold?

🖤 CARMEN NEEDS YOUR VERDICT

Count your 🖤 answers.

0–2 🖤 — Responsible Reader
You recognize a red flag when you see one. Suspiciously healthy behavior for this corner of the internet.

3–5 🖤 — Gray-Curious
You have boundaries. They simply become a little flexible when fictional devotion enters the conversation.

6–8 🖤 — Morally Gray Enthusiast
You saw the red flags. You considered the evidence. You appear to have arranged them attractively.

9–11 🖤 — Carmen Has Concerns
Darling.

At this point, you’re not ignoring the red flags.

You’re collecting them.

NOW DEFEND YOURSELF

Which statement made you hesitate the longest?

Which one was an immediate 🖤?

And most importantly:

🚩 or 🖤 for “He would burn the world down for her”?

Defend your answer in the comments.

Carmen will be observing the proceedings.

Possibly with legal counsel. 🖤
